I am working on developing a teaching philosophy. I have ideas of what I would write based on the kind of TA I was in grad school. But I haven’t really put pen to paper yet to solidify these ideas. I did have a draft at one point but I hated it. So enjoy this fabulous bulleted list for now!
As I teacher I believe that
- No student is “bad at science”
- I am a mentor, a guide, and there to help
- Providing clear structure and boundaries allows for students to thrive
My methods include
- Using multiple modalities to teach the material
- Peer collaboration, e.g. explaining concepts to each other before I do
- Using labs and simulations to connect with abstract concepts
Other
- Strive to reflect and improve my skills
- Students will leave my class feeling confident in their problem solving skills
- I have a unique perspective due to my time in industry
